What's included?

Time, space & support to work on your business
Need to get your head down? Some of us like to work on our own and others like the comfort and support of others around us. Our Getaway offers both. There are lots of opportunities to talk with other small business owners and a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw upon. You can also book individual advice sessions with Emma Torrance, a qualified and highly experienced business adviser. But there's also plenty of private space to work undisturbed in this beautiful, rambling mansion hired exclusively for us.

Creative & Wellbeing Activities
You are your business and that means looking after yourself, trying new things and having fun. So there's a varied programme of activities to try; to help you relax, ease anxiety and inspire creativity. After all you've probably noticed how often your best ideas come when you are doing something completely different!
All the sessions are run by women who are attending the Getaway anyway so if you miss their session, or want to find out more, find them for a chat.

Good Company
Nobody understands the issues you face more than other female freelancers and small business owners. Over dinner, drinks and shared activities enjoy the chance to connect, share experiences, test ideas, swap knowledge, explore collaborations and and build lasting professional relationships.
(But it's also absolutely fine to spend as much time as you want alone. This is your Getaway!)

Beautiful Environment
Nanpantan Hall is tranquil and peaceful. Set in 30 acres of grounds, 10 minutes from Loughborough station & the M1, access to miles of footpaths across rolling Leicestershire countryside, forest and rocks - the area that inspired the young Sir David Attenborough!
Delicious, Nutritious Food
The Getaway is fully inclusive of a delicious and nutritious vegetarian menu - 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 2 x three-course dinners, with help-yourself snacks and beverages available thoughout the day. Some alcoholic drinks are also available with dinner. All diets and allergies can be catered for but please advise at the time of booking.

A Room of Your Own
Virginia Woolf wrote how important a room of your own is, and for those who normally share, this could be the time to enjoy some delicious solitary-time! There are small modern en-suite rooms on the top floor in the loft space and mostly larger traditional rooms (with amazing views) and shared bathrooms on the first floor. There is also an accessible ground floor room with en-suite. Please specify your room choice on booking.
The Programme
You choose your own combination of time spent on business, creative and wellbeing activities (these include country strolls, creative collaging, mindful photography, meditation and movement practices, with more options being added - see details below). Bear in mind that with the exception of the pre-booked individual business advice sessions, you can choose what activities to engage in when you arrive. At the time of writing this is roughly the programme and may be subject to change.

Your Hosts - Emma Torrance & Jeanne Booth
We have worked together since 2015 when we opened up a co-working and events space with an art gallery and cafe in Nottingham City Centre. We each have our own individual businesses, skills and expertise which make up a unique, creative combination!

Emma Torrance - I am an independent qualified business adviser who has been supporting and mentoring freelancers and small businesses for over two decades. I'm a creative and practical problem-solver and can help in all aspects and particularly enjoy helping people get to grips with new product development and the financial side of things including pricing, cashflow and tax.

Jeanne Booth - I have owned two art gallery and event spaces and simultaneously worked as a freelance higher education consultant, delivering entrepreneurship skills for arts graduates in the UK and internationally. Now I'm particularly interested in how participation in creative & wellbeing activities (having more fun!) greatly enhances your life, work and business.

What you need to know
Your questions answered
Who can come to the Female Freelancers Getaway?
The Female Freelancers Getaway is designed for women freelancers and small business owners including start-ups. Over three days and two nights, you will have the opportunity to step away from your daily responsibilities and focus on your business challenges, engage in creative activities, or simply take some time for yourself.
Where is it?
Nanpantan Hall is a beautiful period house set in a private 30 acre country estate in the heart of England, just outside Loughborough, Leicestershire. It is only 90 minutes from London. 2 miles from Junction 23 of the M1 and only ten minutes cab ride from Loughborough railway station, yet feels remote, peaceful and tranquil. Guests are free to explore Nanpantan’s delightful woodland estate. There are several walks, a hidden dell ideal for quiet contemplation, a well kept garden with far-reaching views from the terrace and entry to public footpaths for those wishing to explore the local countryside further.
If you have a bit of time to explore the area; National Trust property, Stoneywell, Ernest Gimson's Arts and Crafts House (and site for filming Make it at Market) is just 4 miles away; Britain's last Bellfoundry is 3 miles away and University of Loughborough, gym and pool facilities are 2 miles away.
Is the venue accessible?
All the rooms we use for the programme are level on the ground floor. The modern en-suite bedrooms are in the attic space on the top floor and there is a lift directly from the ground floor. There is also a specifically adapted en-suite bedroom on the ground floor. The period rooms on the first floor, mostly involve steps. It is an old building so there are quirky steps in unexpected places so please advise us of any specific requirements and we will check that we can meet them.
Can I join for just part of the Getaway?
At this time the Getaway is bookable only for the whole period. Please contact us before you book if you can only attend for part of the time.
How much does it cost and what does this include?
The Getaway cost £695 and includes the programme of activities and accommodation in your own room for 2 nights and 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 x 3 course dinners; snacks and beverages available throughout and some alcoholic drinks with dinner. All the catering is vegetarian and we can cater for specific diets - please advise on booking.
Split payment options are no longer available.
Blue Stockings Subscribers can get a £50 discount, see the section above or please contact us.

Can I cancel and get a refund?
We know how difficult it is to commit to an event in advance but also as a small business, we have obligations to our small business suppliers. So we hope we've come up with probably one of the most generous refund and cancellation policies to help everybody.
Early Bird Offer £595 - this discounted until June 2026. If you book and pay us the whole amount or instalment by 30 June 2026, you have 14 days to change your mind and claim a full refund.
Full cost from 1 July £695
If you book and pay us the whole amount or instalment between 2nd July and midnight on 14th July 2025, you can cancel and claim 50% of the payments you have made as long as you let us know you want to cancel by midnight on 14th July 2025
From 15th July - sorry no refunds can be paid after this date but please let us know if you cannot attend. You may be able to transfer your place to a friend or donate your place to another female freelancer who could not come otherwise.
How many women will be there?
We are keeping this to a small gathering. We have got exclusive hire together with Jen Stanbrook's Formidable Us Retreat and altogether there will be around 20 women. That's enough for interesting company when you want it but few enough to easily find alone space in this beautiful rambling mansion and grounds.
What do I need to bring?
If there's something you want to work on, bring it together with any notes or documents you need and your laptop. Otherwise you'll just need sensible shoes for walking, a rain-mac, your smart-phone, comfortable clothes and a yoga mat for meditation and movement classes.
